The New Star Trek Premieres with Style

I'm not a Trekkie.  I've always preferred the swashbuckling mysticism of the original Star Wars films to the more cerebral sci-fi of the the Star Trek universe.  But I love a good publicity stunt - if it's tasteful.  That's what they got last night at the Paramount Theater in Austin, TX.

Austin's beloved film geek community (to which I once proudly belonged) showed up at the Paramount to screen what they thought was a new print of the original Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan.  Instead, what they got was the brand new Star Trek film - JJ Abrams' highly anticipated (and debated) reboot of the franchise.  The whole stunt will become legend, with the Star Trek II movie starting, "fritzing out," the lights coming up in the Paramount, and Leonard Nimoy himself getting on stage in a hat and trench coat to introduce the new movie.
